History



Seitan has been a culinary tradition in Far Eastern cultures for at least a milleneum. It was widely introduced to the West primarily through the healing vegetarian based dietary philosophy of macrobiotics in late 1960s and early 70s.It's texture and consistency so closely resemble butcher shop meat, most people are surprised to learn that it is a 100% plant -based vegetarian/vegan product. Ray's Seitan, is one of the oldest firms producing high quality Seitan in the United States, founded in 1983 by owner Ray Reichel in Philadelphia as a natural extension of his own commitment to a healthy lifestyle supported by sound plant based nutritional and dietary habits.
